Eight Years of Corporate Handouts and 11 Downgrades of NJ’s Bond Rating – It’s Time for Accountability
While New Jersey’s Bond Rating was being downgraded 11 times over the last eight years, and property taxes were increasing by 17%, my opponent worked with Governor Christie to deliver $8 billion in corporate handouts, far in excess of the one $1.2 billion granted during the prior 10 years. My opponent voted against, and Governor Christie vetoed, legislation in 2015 that would have measured the jobs created for these lavish handouts. We all deserve an accounting, and if I’m lucky enough to be your State Senator I’ll make sure we get it.
Preventing Animal Abuse
Abusive Puppy Mills: We had a chance to ban them in New Jersey, but Chris Christie vetoed the legislation and my opponent, Declan O’Scanlon, agreed with him. Our pets can’t vote to protect themselves, so it’s up to us. If elected, I will support legislation to ban puppy mills in NJ.
Saving Monmouth Park
Monmouth Park is one of the most beautiful race tracks in the country and a very important economic engine for all of us here in Monmouth County. It supports thousands of jobs in related industries, and we need to ensure that it has everything it needs to thrive. Tracks in other states are able to attract better races due to the higher purses they can offer thanks to the presence of slot machines. In our state, petty party politics and the gambling industry status quo have prevented Monmouth Park from having the tools it needs to thrive. If elected, I will work tirelessly to give Monmouth Park what it needs to succeed.
Sandy Stress Continues for Many Bayshore Towns
Hurricane Sandy damaged many of our neighbors, but the recovery process overseen by the Governor also damaged many a second time. A slow and painful claims process and a failure to punish insurers who failed to fully pay claims, and a lack of effective enforcement oversight of predatory contractors, pushed many homeowners to a point of no return. In Trenton, I will fight to ensure that the people harmed by Sandy, and its flawed recovery process, are made whole. I will also seek to establish a fund to rehabilitate or rebuild the vacant and abandoned homes throughout our Bayshore communities.
Fighting the JCP&L’s Power Lines
I have taken concrete practical steps to stop this project and help @RAGE 2016. In Trenton, I will stand up for our neighborhoods which would be permanently scarred by this project, and for residents worried about having transmission lines in their backyards.
Crossing Party Lines for Byrnes
I have had the privilege of getting to know the hardworking fisherman of the Belford Seafood Co-op, and I have certainly enjoyed my spirited political discussions with Roy and other members over the years. Thank you for your support Roy!
